In the pressure washer industry, cleaning machines and floor sweepers use hot or cold water at high pressure in addition to special cleaning chemicals. Cleaning dirty surfaces is the primary task of these high pressure cleaners such as spray guns. In these spray guns, different types of spray nozzles are used, ranging from flat spray nozzles made of brass or stainless steel to high pressure turbo rotating nozzles made of tungsten carbide or ceramics.
The floor sweepers use ceramic components in their rotation axis to handle hard materials and achieve a longer service life. High wear and corrosion resistance is necessary for the rotating tungsten carbide and ceramic components used in these machines. Figure 1 illustrates the ceramic discs used for high pressure floor sweepers wherein two discs are placed in the rotating axle, facilitating smooth operation and long service life. Orbital rotating nozzles shown in Figure 2 are fabricated from ceramics such as zirconia-toughened alumina or alumina. They have to repeatedly handle hot water and sea water at temperatures of 90°C and pressures of = 10,000psi.
